THE WELLER FOUNDATION, INCORPORATED

The Weller Foundation, Incorporated* is a non-profit organization established in 1962 to provide financial assistance to educational, charitable, and civic organizations. The Foundation’s primary objective is to stimulate more responsible individual contributions to our community. Currently, eleven award programs are active. The following eleven programs are continuing with Joel Barlow, Masuk, Newtown, Shelton, and Trumbull High Schools:

  • Senior Science Award (since 1962), a $500 award presented to five outstanding seniors in science
  • Eleanor F. Moore Business Award (since 1973), a $500 award presented to five outstanding seniors in business
  • Paul W. Broggi Communications Award (since 1986), a $500 award presented to five outstanding seniors in communications
  • The Barton L. Weller Scholarship (since 1978), an $22,000 award presented to a senior for an independent study or research project
  • Vincent A. Voccia Vocational Award (since 1983), a $4,000 award presented to seniors to assist in preparation for a vocational or technical career
  • The Louis J. LaCroce Medical/Health Sciences Scholarship (since 1995; renamed in 2021 – formerly The Weller Medical/Health Sciences Scholarship), a $7,000 award presented to a senior to further his/her interest in a healthcare career
  • The Weller Education Scholarship (since 2002), a $7,000 award presented to a senior to further his/her interest in teaching elementary or secondary education
  • The Robert Swart Engineering Scholarship (since 2015; renamed in 2018 – formerly The Weller Engineering Scholarship), a $7,000 award presented to a senior to further his/her interest in an engineering career
  • The Weller Computer Science/ Technology Scholarship (offered in 2008 and 2009; reinstated in 2018), a $7,000 award presented to a senior to further their interest in computer science.
  • Other award programs include: The Weller Excellence in Teaching Award (since 1989), a $1,000 award presented to teachers in recognition of the teaching quality and innovation exhibited by classroom teachers of Grades K-5, and The Weller Collegiate Scholarship (since 1991), a $1,000 award to provide tuition assistance to incoming freshmen at area colleges
